Members of CUPE (Canadian Union of Public Employees) Local 500 have voted 66 per cent to accept a tentative agreement reached on June 13 with the City of Winnipeg.

The previous collective agreement ended on Dec. 24, 2016, and the city and union began negotiations on Feb. 6, 2017. On June 7, members voted 85 per cent in favour of a strike mandate in response to the city’s offer of May 24, according to CUPE.

“In the end, we were able to push back against some significant concessions that would have hurt the quality of city services our members provide and Winnipeggers rely on,” said Local 500 president Gord Delbridge.

The agreement includes wage increases of 1.5 per cent effective Dec. 27, 2017, Dec. 27, 2018, and Oct. 31, 2019.

The tentative agreement must now be ratified by city council.
