Remote allowance, wage boosts part of deal: MGEU

Employees at the Duke of Marlborough School, who work in the nursery 12 school in in Churchill, Man., recently voted to accept their first contract on Sept. 23.

The new one-year agreement (effective July 1) provides 21 Manitoba Government and General Employees’ Union (MGEU), Local 446 members with a wage increase, a boost to their remoteness allowance and the introduction of several policies and provisions that the union was seeking in their first collective agreement, says MGEU.

The employees covered by the contract include educational assistants, custodians and maintenance workers, as well as the school librarian, counselor, and secretary, says the union.

The next step for the union will be to have the new agreement finalized and signed before distribution to members, says MGEU.
