IAM ratifies new agreement with Bearskin Airlines

Includes wage increases in all three years of deal

Members of International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) local lodge 2413 have ratified a new collective agreement with Thunder Bay, Ont.,-based Bearskin Airlines.

The 30 mechanics, parts personnel and general maintenance workers ratified the agreement by a margin of 85 per cent, according to the union.

The new three-year agreement provides wage increases of one per cent in the first year and 1.5 per cent in the second and third year respectively. Wage scale increases are retroactive to Sept. 1, 2016, said the union.

Other highlights include: uncreased shift premiums, meal allowances, sick day allowance, vacation days and clothing allowances. It also includes a new job classification of general maintenance person, improved bereavement leave and improved layoff notice language, according to the union.

Bearskin provides flights to Winnipeg, Kenora, Red Lake, Sioux Lookout, Dryden, Fort Frances, Kapuskasing, Timmins, North Bay, Sudbury and Sault Ste. Marie. The IAM is the largest union in the Canadian Air Transport Sector.
