Renewal agreement: Effective Jan. 1, 2020 to Dec. 31, 2023. Signed on Dec. 16, 2020.

Shift premium: $2.50 per hour to instructional drivers while training. Time and one-half total hours spent in making trip when employees ride ocean ferries with equipment on ferry trips that exceed 8 hours (Port Hardy-Prince Rupert and Alaska ferries). $0.50 per hour for employee holding first-aid certificate recognized under workers’ compensation board regulations who is designated by employer to carry out duties of first-aid attendant class C.

Paid holidays: 11 days.  

Vacations with pay: 4% to start, 2 weeks or 4% after 1 year, 120 hours or 6% after 3 years, 160 hours or 8% after 9 years, 200 hours or 10% after 15 years, 240 hours or 12% after 21 years. 

Overtime: Double time for all work after 8 or 10 hours per day or 40 hours per week.

Meal allowance: Employee will receive paid time off to eat after 2 hours of overtime worked, except where interruption of work is not practical.

Medical benefits: Employer pays 100% of premiums for coverage under Teamsters transport health and welfare trust plan.

Sick leave: One-half day per month, maximum 30 days, after 1 year of service.

Pension: Teamsters’ National Pension Plan. Employer contributes $2.85 per hour (previously $2.75 per hour). Effective Jan. 1, 2022: $3.08 per hour. Effective Jan. 1, 2023: $3.25 per hour.

Bereavement leave: 3 days for death of parent, spouse, brother, sister, child, parent-in-law, sister-in-law, brother-in-law, stepchildren, legal guardian, grandparents, which include spouse’s grandparents, grandchildren.

Seniority – recall rights: 1 year after layoffs; 18 months after 5 years of service. 90 days when employee within bargaining unit receives leave of absence to take position with employer which is beyond sphere of bargaining unit.

Probationary period: First 90 calendar days.

Discipline: Sunset clause is 12 months for any written reprimand or warning letter.

Uniforms/clothing: When employee is required to wear any kind of uniform or coveralls as condition of continued employment, uniform or coveralls will be furnished and maintained by employer at no cost to employee. Any employee physically handling dangerous goods or who is exposed to hazard by reason of handling toxic or noxious chemicals will be provided with all recommended and approved protective clothing or devices to perform job safely. Maintenance shop employees will be provided with clean coveralls

5 axle/6 axle/7 axle/8 axle rate: $27.08 rising 2 steps to $27.88

Students referred from truck driving schools

First month: $19

Second month: $21

Third month: $22

Fourth month: $23

Fifth month: Full rate

New hires with no tank truck experience: 90 day probationary period

First month: $ 21

Second month: $22

Third month: $23

Fourth month: Full rate

New hires with tank truck experience: Full rate

Editor’s notes: Medicals: When employee is required by employer to take medical outside of regular hours of work, employer will pay maximum 2 hours of straight-time wages for time spent, except when employee is returning to work or is about to return to work following illness or disability. License tests: When employee undertakes test for renewal of licenses or tickets, employer will provide appropriate equipment for this purpose. Time taken off will be paid for at employee’s straight-time rate. Bush runs: For trips which include both main highway miles and off-line bush miles, main highway miles will be paid at applicable mileage rate and off-line bush miles will be paid at hourly rate (off road trips into oil fields/oil patch will be paid at $35 per hour). Industry fund: Employer will make contributions of $0.05 per hour to Teamsters Local 31 union/industry advancement fund.
