Renewal agreement: Effective Jan. 1, 2016, to Dec. 31, 2021. Signed on May 12, 2016.
Wage adjustments: 
Effective Jan. 1, 2017: 2.25%
Effective Jan. 1, 2018: 2.25%
Effective Jan. 1, 2019: 2.25%
Effective Jan. 1, 2020: 2.25%
Effective Jan. 1, 2021: 2.5%
Shift premium: $1.50 per hour for all hours worked on Saturday or Sunday (beginning at 11 p.m. Friday and ending at 11 p.m. Sunday).
Paid holidays: 10 days. 
Vacations with pay: 2 weeks or 4% after 1 year, 3 weeks or 6% after 3 years, 4 weeks or 10% after 10 years. 
Overtime: Time and one-half for all hours worked after 8 hours in a 24-hour period, or 40 hours per week. 
Medical benefits: Employer pays 50% of premiums, employee pays 50 of premiums.
Vision: $300 every 2 years for prescription safety glasses. Effective the fifth year of the agreement: $400. 
Sick leave: 5 days per year, maximum 10 days banked.
Pension: Employees are required to contribute to the defined contribution plan a minimum of 5%, maximum 12% of gross earnings. Employer will match contributions.
Bereavement leave: 5 days (previously 4 days) for death in immediate family (spouse, child or stepchild, parent). 3 days (previously 1 day) for death in extended family (grandparent, spouse’s grandparent, stepparent, mother-in-law, father-in-law, brother, sister, stepbrother, stepsister).
Call-in pay: Minimum 4 hours’ pay.
Probationary period: 45 days. 
Uniforms/clothing: Employer will provide: hat, rain gear, safety gloves, non-prescription safety glasses, 2 safety vests per year, 2 coveralls per year, 1 pair of safety boots per year, 1 pair rubber boots per year.
Sample rates of hourly pay (current, after 12% increase):
Equipment operator: $26.84 rising 4 steps to $30.08
Apprentice: $22.18 rising 4 steps to $24.85
Editor’s notes: New-post training: Up to 40 hours of on-the-job training will be provided to employees chosen for a new posting. Apprenticeship training: Apprentices will be reimbursed tuition costs (tuition, books, exams) and outside of Cape Breton Regional Municipality, travel, accommodation, and associated costs, maximum $1,500 per year.
