Fort St. John, B.C. (7 aircraft maintenance employees) and the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC)

Renewal agreement: Effective March 1, 2014, to Feb. 28, 2018. Signed on April 1, 2015.

Wage adjustments:

Effective March 1, 2014: 2.5%

Effective March 1, 2015: 2.5%

Effective March 1, 2016: 2.5%

Effective March 1, 2017: 2.5%

Shift premium: $1.55 per hour for airport technician lead hand. $2 per hour (including overtime) for shifts between 4 p.m. and 8 a.m. $2 per hour on a Saturday or Sunday.

Paid holidays: 12 days. Time and one-half for first 8 hours of overtime on a named holiday, double time for all subsequent hours. Time off may be taken instead of pay.

Vacations with pay: 3 weeks to start (pro rated), 4 weeks after 8 years, 5 weeks after 16 years, 6 weeks after 25 years. If there is no agreement regarding carry-over, 50% of unused vacation will be paid out at end of year, balance to be paid out by June 30 of following year unless employee has used the vacation days.

Overtime: Time and one-half for hours worked beyond 8 in one day or 40 in one week. Time and one-half for the first hour worked on the first scheduled day of rest, double time for all hours worked beyond that. Double time for each hour worked on the second scheduled day of rest. Double time for each hour of overtime worked after 16 hours within a 24-hour period.

Meal allowance: $12 or a meal provided by employer for employees who work at least 3 hours overtime. $12 or additional meal provided per 4-hour period if an employee continues to work.

Medical benefits: Medical Services Plan of British Columbia.

Dental: 100% coverage for basic services, 60% coverage for major restorative services up to a combined limit of $2,000 per person per year. 50% of coverage for orthodontic services up to $3,000 per person.

Vision: Up to $235 per person every 2 years.

Sick leave: 1.5 days earned per month worked. Unused credits to accumulate up to 960 hours.

LTD: 66.67% of salary. Employer pays 85% of premium.

AD&D: 200% of salary. $5,000 for spouse, $2,500 for child. Employer to pay 100% of premium.

Life insurance: 200% of salary. $5,000 for spouse, $2,500 for child. Employer to pay 100% of premium.

Pension: Defined benefit pension (for ex-federal service workers): 7.5% of pensionable earnings less CPP contributions, to be matched by employer. Defined contribution pension (for employees hired post 1997): 6% of pensionable earnings to be matched by employer.

Bereavement leave: 4 days for the funeral of an immediate family member. That includes father, mother, stepfather, stepmother, foster parent, brother, step brother, sister, stepsister, spouse, common-law spouse, child, child of common-law spouse, foster child, stepchild, ward, grandchild, grandparent, father-in-law, mother-in-law and any relative permanently residing with the employee. Up to 3 additional days if distance warrants. 1 day for son-in-law, daughter-in-law, brother-in-law or sister-in-law.

Seniority – recall rights: 1 year.

Call-in pay: Minimum 3 hours’ pay at overtime rate or compensation for actual hours worked, whichever is greater.

Probationary period: 6 months.

Discipline: Sunset clause is 2 years.

Severance: 2 weeks’ pay for the first year of service, 1 week’s pay for each year thereafter. Voluntary severance available for employees given that they waive right to recall and the voluntary severance could avoid lay-off of another employee. Laid-off employees shall be granted reasonable leave with pay for the purpose of being interviewed by another employer. Laid-off employees provided with job search assistance programming and counselling.

Uniforms/clothing: 5 shirts, 5 pairs of pants, 3 pairs of coveralls, 1 pair of insulated coveralls, 2 summer jackets issued to airport technicians upon hire. 1 parka every 3 years, safety footwear every 2 years. 1 pair of safety sunglasses. Rain gear (hats, coats, pants and boots) as required. Employer to provide laundry facilities at no cost to employee, items to be replaced as required.

Airport technician: $27.93 per hour

Technician: $30.12

Supervisor, airport services: $29.91

Facilities and administration officer: $26.74

Administrative assistant: $23.15

Editor’s notes: Wash-up time: 10 minutes paid before lunch and end of day when employer deems necessary.
