Workers receive $1,000 lump-sum payments in two years of four-year agreement: UFCW
Employees at Ready Bake Foods in Mississauga, Ont., — represented by United Food and Commercial Workers Canada (UFCW), Local 175 — signed a four-year agreement on March 24 which includes a number of financial improvements.
Full-time employees, including maintenance, receive wage increases in the form of lump sums and rate increases over the contract term, said the union.
Initially, workers will receive a lump sum of $1,000 for the first year, as well as another $1,000 in year three. In the second year, rates increase by $0.30 per hour, and in the fourth year, rates improve by $0.40 per hour. In addition, maintenance employees receive an adjustment of $2 per hour as of ratification. Part-time employees will also see increases to their rates depending on hours worked, said UFCW.
Full-time employees on the middle grid will now progress through the top grid should they apply for a position within another classification. This has the potential to provide those members with an hourly rate increase of between $5 and $6, said the union.
Other monetary improvements include a foot-wear allowance increase to $140, up from $120, per year, and improved physiotherapy coverage of $300 per year, according to the UFCW.
More than 80 employees work at the Mississauga Ready Bake facility.
