Renewal agreement: Effective Feb. 1, 2021 to Jan. 31, 2026. Signed on May 25, 2022.

Wage adjustments:

Effective Feb. 1, 2021: 0%

Effective Feb. 1, 2022: 2%

Effective Feb. 1, 2023: 2%

Effective Feb. 1, 2024: 2.5%

Effective Feb. 1, 2025: 2.5%

Shift premium: $30 per day ($65 for leading seaman) onboard during voyage for voyages into Arctic (previously $25 per day).

Paid holidays: 12 days (covered by leave system of 1 day off for 1 day of work).

Medical benefits: Employer pays 80% of premiums, employee pays 20% of premiums. Employer will also contribute $10 per employee per day worked to Seafarers’ Medical Plan.

Dental: Employer pays 80% of premiums, employee pays 20% of premiums.

Vision: Employer pays 80% of premiums, employee pays 20% of premiums.

LTD: Employer pays 80% of premiums, employee pays 20% of premiums.

Life insurance: Employer pays 80% of premiums, employee pays 20% of premiums.

Pension: Employer will contribute 7% of employee’s earnings into group RRSP.

Bereavement leave: 5 days for death in immediate family (father, mother, spouse, common-law spouse, child, brother, sister, parents-in-law, grandparents).

Seniority – recall rights: 6 months from date of promotion when employee is promoted to position outside bargaining unit. 12 months for employee who is laid off.

Probationary period: 2 tours of duty working on vessel.

Discipline: Sunset clause is 24 months for all disciplinary measures on employee’s record.

Severance: 5 days of basic pay for each year of service.

Safety shoes: $200 per year for safety footwear, after 1 year of service.

Uniforms/clothing: Employer supplies 1 pair of coveralls to each new employee when employee first goes to work on vessel; thereafter 2 additional pairs of coveralls during first 12 months of employment. Subsequently, coveralls are replaced as needed, maximum 3 pairs of coveralls per year of which, 1 will be insulated. Employer will provide sufficient supply of work gloves.

Sample rates of hourly pay (current, after 5% increase):

Leading seaman: $28.13 rising 2 steps to $29.56

Seaman: $24.44 rising 2 steps to $25.68

QMED: $24.44 rising 2 steps to $25.68

Cook: $28.13 rising 2 steps to $29.56

General duty: $20.10 rising 2 steps to $21.12

Editor’s notes: Overnight stays: If employee either joining or leaving vessel is detained overnight on day of travel, employee will be reimbursed for accommodation costs and in addition will receive travel allowance of $100 per day. Marine disaster: Maximum $2,500 for employee who suffers loss of clothing or other personal effects because of marine disaster or shipwreck. Seniority bonus: $1,500 on 10-year anniversary; $2,000 on 15-year anniversary; $2,500 on 20-year anniversary; $3,000 on 25-year anniversary.
