Saint John, N.B. (350 plumbers, pipefitters, welders, mechanics) and the United Association of Journeymen and Apprentices of the Plumbing and Pipe Fitting Industry of the United States, Canada (UA), Local 213

Renewal agreement: Effective Sept. 26, 2016, to June 30, 2019. Signed on Sept. 26, 2016.
Shift premium: 15% above regular rate when working shift other than day shift.
Paid holidays: 10 days. 
Vacations with pay: 11% of pay.
Overtime: Double time for all hours worked after regular hours. 
Meal allowance: When working overtime, if employee is not notified previous 24 hours, hot meal is provided. If restaurants are closed, employer will supply sandwiches and milk or other cold beverages. Employee has option of accepting $28 in lieu of meal.
Pension: Employee contributes $0.50 per regular hour, employer contributes $1 per overtime hour. 
Uniforms/clothing: Employees working in an area of caustic powders, soot, grease, other harmful products will be provided with overalls daily. Employer will provide welding mitts to welders, leather-faced gloves to pipefitters, welding sleeves or capes and bibs with full coverage to arms, chest and stomach. Employer will supply hard hats, winter liners, glove liners, rain suits, rubber boots when required.
Tool allowance: Journeyman in residential work will supply: 1 torpedo level, 1 tape, 1 screwdriver, 1 8” Channellock pliers, 1 hammer, 1 8” crescent wrench, 1 14” pipe wrench. Tools damaged or stolen will be replaced by employer.
Sample rates of hourly pay (current):
Journeyman: $41.52
Apprentice
1 to 900 hours: 50% of journeyman’s rate
901 to 1,800 hours: 55% of journeyman’s rate
1,801 to 2,700 hours: 60% of journeyman’s rate
2,701 to 3,600 hours: 65% of journeyman’s rate
3,600 to 4,500 hours: 70% of journeyman’s rate
4,501 to 5,400 hours: 75% of journeyman’s rate
5,401 to 6,300 hours: 80% of journeyman’s rate
6,301 to 7,200 hours: 85% of journeyman’s rate
More than 7,200 hours: 85% of journeyman’s rate
Editor’s notes: Travel allowance: When working outside 42-kilometre radius of Saint John, employee paid $0.45 per kilometre from end of free zone. Parking reimbursed, daily maximum allowance for all costs $65. Outsider’s allowance: $90 for union members outside Local 213 area working in Saint John. Management administration and industry promotion fund: $0.15 per hour for each hour worked for all work performed in Saint John Mechanical Contractors Employer’s Association which consists of counties of Charlotte, Saint John, Kings and Queens. Training trust fund: $0.65 per hour per employee. Health and welfare trust fund: $3.15 per hour per employee. Effective July 1, 2017: $3.24. Effective July 1, 2018: $3.31.
