Renewal agreement: Effective Jan. 1, 2019 to Dec. 31, 2022. Signed on Jan. 1, 2019.

Wage adjustments:

Effective Jan. 1, 2019: 2.25%

Effective Jan. 1, 2020: 1.75%

Effective Jan. 1, 2021: 1.75%

Effective Jan. 1, 2022: 1.5%

Shift premium: $1.40 per hour responsibility pay when employee assumes responsibilities in excess of those identified in job description for specified period of time. $1.50 per hour worked on evening hours (provided employee works minimum 2 or more evening hours). $1.55 per hour worked on night hours (provided employee works minimum 2 or more night hours).

Paid holidays: 12 days.

Vacations with pay: 1.5 days per month or 18 days to start, 1.92 days per month or 23 days after 3 years, 2.25 days per month or 27 days after 8 years, 2.5 days per month or 30 days after 15 years, 2.92 days per month or 35 days after 20 years. Vacation leave will not be carried over for more than 1 year. Any credits remaining in excess of 1 year’s entitlement will be paid to employee at end of fiscal year.

Overtime: Time and one-half for work after 7.5 or 8 hours per day or 37.5 or 40 hours per week. Double time or all work after 4 consecutive hours of overtime; on second or subsequent day of rest (provided employee worked on first day of rest and that days of rest are consecutive). May be taken as time off in lieu, maximum 20 days per year banked and will be paid out by end of fiscal year.

Medical benefits: Employer pays 60% of premiums, employee pays 40% of premiums for Northern Employee Benefits Services.

Weekly indemnity: Employer pays 60% of premiums, employee pays 40% of premiums.

Sick leave: 0.25 days per month; unused credits will be carried forward every year. Upon termination of employment, employee with less than 7 years of service will receive 1 day of pay for every 10 days of accumulated leave, maximum 10 days; employee with 7 years of service will receive 1 day of pay for every 2 days of accumulated leave, maximum 100 days.

LTD: Employee pays 100% of premiums.

AD&D: Employer pays 60% of premiums, employee pays 40% of premiums.

Life insurance: Employer pays 60% of premiums, employee pays 40% of premiums.

Pension: All eligible employees will be enrolled in pension plan provided by Northern Employee Benefits Services.

Bereavement leave: 5 days for death in immediate family. 3 days to allow employee to attend funeral of employee’s niece, nephew, aunt, uncle. 4 hours to allow employee to attend funeral of employee’s cousin.

Call-in pay: Compensation at appropriate overtime rate or compensation equivalent to 4 hours of pay at straight-time rate, whichever is greater.

Probationary period: 6 months (may be extended for further 6 months); maximum 1,950 or 2,080 hours of work for all employees other than full-time employees.

Discipline: Sunset clause is 2 years for any document, written statement related to disciplinary action.

Severance: 2 weeks’ pay for first year of employment plus 1 week’s pay for each succeeding year of employment, maximum 28 weeks’ pay.

Safety shoes: Maximum $300 per year (previously $250 per year) reimbursement.

Uniforms/clothing: Employer will provide coveralls; specialized gloves (welding, rubber); hard hats; aprons; welding goggles; dust-protection equipment; eye-protection equipment (except prescription lenses); ear-protection equipment; pool uniform; goggles; deck shoes.

Mileage: Employee using private vehicle for own convenience while travelling on employer business will be paid amount equal to Treasury Board of Canada rates for Northwest Territories up to cost of travel by commercial airline.

Editor’s notes: Winter leave: 2 additional days will be given to all employees, provided leave is taken between Oct. 1 and April 30 and employee liquidates minimum of 5 days of leave for each day of winter leave used. Games leave: 8 days per year to attend preliminary trials; any 1 session of the games for employees who compete as athletes or are officially designated as coaches or managers for the Arctic Winter Games, Canada Summer Games, Canada Winter Games. Wellness leave: Employees will be entitled to 1 day of sick leave or special leave per year to promote wellness and maintain good physical and mental health. Northern allowance: $7,715.79 per year (previously $7,564.50 per year) to every indeterminate employee and to every casual employee who exceeds 960 hours of continuous employment. Standby pay: 1 hour of pay for each 8 consecutive hours or portion thereof employee is on standby; 1.5 hours of pay for each 8 consecutive hours on day of rest or holiday. Cooling-off period: Employee who willfully terminates employment due to misunderstanding or argument will be allowed to return to work and remain employed if employee does so within 2 working days. Long-term service awards: Employee who has been at step 6 pay level for 3 years will be entitled to $900 (previously $750) and thereafter $300 per year (previously $7,50 every 3 years).
