Renewal agreement: Effective Sept. 1, 2019 to Aug. 31, 2023. Ratified in March 2020. Signed on July 1, 2020.

Wage adjustments:

Effective Sept. 1, 2019: 1%

Effective Sept. 1, 2020: 1%

Effective Sept. 1, 2021: 1%

Effective Sept. 1, 2022: 1.7%          

Shift premium: $1,000 for employee who designs new course that has not previously been offered at university and which is not listed in university’s course calendar. $750, payable by May 31 each year, for award to recognize teaching excellence (part-time faculty members only).

Paid holidays: 10 days.

Medical benefits: Employer pays 100% of premiums for extended health care for active employees not covered by another benefit plan who are employed for more than 3 months during academic year.

Dental: Employer pays 100% of premiums for dental care for active employees not covered by another benefit plan who are employee for more than 3 months during academic year.

Sick leave: Absences due to illness, injury or medical procedure permitted with notification to immediate supervisor. Medical certificate must be provided for absences greater than 1 calendar week (previously no specified period). No loss of pay for absences up to 2 calendar weeks in any fall or winter sessions and up to 1 calendar week for any sessions of 12 weeks or fewer.

Bereavement leave: 3 consecutive working days for death of spouse, child, parent, sibling, parent-in-law, member of immediate household. 1 working day to attend funeral of sibling-in-law, child-in-law, grandchild, grandparent, aunt, uncle, niece, nephew. Up to 2 additional days may be given in exceptional cases, such as where lengthy trip is required to attend funeral.

Sample rates of annual pay (current, after 2.7% increase):

Course instructor: $15,284.71 rising 2 steps to $15,707.71

Course cancellation fee: $7,642.35 for first student, plus $694.78 for each additional student, maximum of $15,284.71 rising 2 steps to $7,853.86 for first student, plus $713.98 for each additional student, maximum of $15,707.71

Course coordinator: $5,302.79 rising 2 steps to $5,449.54

Tutorial/workshop leader: $3,811.57, plus $663.02 times number of tutorial contact hours rising 2 steps to $3,917.06 plus $681.37 times number of tutorial contact hours. Grading allowance of $100 times total number of students in group.

Lab demonstrator: $23.75 per hour rising 2 steps to $24.41

Marker/grader: $21.58 per hour rising 2 steps to $22.17

Academic skills centre instructor/ESL instructor: $34.57 per hour rising 2 steps to $35.53

Clinical instructor: $81.51 per hour, rising 2 steps to $83.76

Clinical course coordinator: $39.52 per hour rising 2 steps to $40.61

Course assistant: $7,553.30 plus appropriate marker/grader rate for marking essays, rising to $7,762.34 plus appropriate marker/grader rate

Honours thesis supervisor: $1,615.91 rising 2 steps to $1,660.63

Reading course supervisor: $443.62 rising 2 steps to $445.62

Academic counsellor: $33.57 per hour rising 2 steps to $34.50 per hour

Editor’s notes: Tuition waiver: Spouses and children of bargaining unit members employed in current academic year and holding right of first refusal or have been employed for at least 3 previous academic sessions, who are enrolled in courses at Trent University, will have academic fees waived for either undergraduate or graduate tuition for courses in given academic year. Office space and facilities: Employer will provide employees with appropriate office/laboratory space/facilities and equipment to assist them in performance of duties, including computer, internet access, telephone, internal mailbox, computer user account, office supplies, access to printing/copying, long-distance access code/reimbursement for long-distance charges incurred in performance of their duties. Course materials: Employee departments will ensure employees are provided, at no charge, textbooks and required course materials which have been determined to be required in performance of duties. Essential access: In event of strike or lockout, where employee is engaged in research at Trent with knowledge and concurrence of appropriate officials and access is necessary to prevent damage to research projects, bargaining-unit members will be granted access through AVP, human resources. Cancellation of position: When offer of appointment has been made and accepted and appointment is subsequently cancelled by employer prior to scheduled commencement of employment, employee will receive cancellation stipend: 0% of stipend with 8 or more weeks of notice; 5% of stipend with 4 to 8 weeks of notice; 10% of stipend with 2 to 4 weeks of notice; 15% of stipend within less than 2 weeks of notice. Teaching support fund: Employer will provide $4.25 per student course to provide employees, who teach course with more than 50 students, with marking assistance and teaching support.
