Renewal agreement: Effective May 1, 2019 to April 30, 2022. Ratified in March 2020. Signed on Feb. 24, 2020.

Wage adjustments:

Effective May 1, 2019: 1%

Effective May 1, 2020: 1%

Effective May 1, 2021: 1%

Shift premium: $0.50 per hour for shifts starting between noon and 6 p.m. $0.75 per hour for shifts starting between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m. $0.55 per hour for shifts in which more than half of time worked falls on Saturday. $0.75 per hour for shifts in which more than half of time worked falls on Sunday. Premiums don’t apply where time worked is paid at overtime rates.

Paid holidays: 13 days including 1 floater day.

Vacations with pay: 0.83 days per month of service to start, 10 days after 1 year, 15 days after 2 years, 16 days after 5 years, 17 days after 6 years, 18 days after 7 years, 20 days after 8 years, 21 days after 12 years, 22 days after 14 years, 24 years after 16 years, 25 days after 17 years, 26 days after 23 years, 30 days after 28 years.

Overtime: Time and one-half for hours worked in excess of 40 hours in 1 week or 8 hours in 1 day. Double time for hours worked on Sunday. Lieu time may be requested up to maximum of 40 hours.

Meal allowance: $15 for employees who work more than 10 consecutive hours at supervisor’s request and meal has not been provided.

Medical benefits: Employer pays 100% of premiums for medical insurance providing major medical and semi-private hospital coverage. Employer pays 80% of premiums, employee pays 20% of premiums for basic medical and hospital insurance as required by legislation.

Dental: Employer pays 80% of premiums, employee pays 20% of premiums.

Sick leave: 3 days for employees with less than 3 months’ continuous employment plus additional 10 days after 3 months, then 13 days each year.

LTD: Employer pays 66 2/3%, employee pays 33 1/3% premiums.

Life insurance: Employer pays 66 2/3%, employee pays 33 1/3% premiums.

Pension: Employer pays $500 to group RRSP. Employees contribute to pension plan. Upon retirement and receiving monthly university pension, employee will be given $500 RRSP contribution, provided employee has RRSP room available. If employee does not have any available room, then employee will receive $500 lump-sum payment.

Bereavement leave: 5 paid days for death of parent, stepparent, spouse, child, step-child, sibling. 3 paid days for death of parent-in-law, child-in-law, sibling-in-law, grandchild, grandparent. 1 additional day may be given for travelling to and from funeral.

Seniority – recall rights: 21 months.

Call-in pay: Minimum 4 hours’ pay at applicable overtime rate when called back after leaving work. Employees on standby receive 1.5 hours of regular rate for 24-hour period and 1 hour for 16-hour period.

Probationary period: 3 months of continuous employment (may be extended up to 6 months with reasonable grounds for extension).

Discipline: Sunset clause is 24 months following disciplinary suspension; 18 months following other discipline.

Severance: 4 weeks working notice of layoff to start; 8 working weeks after 4 years of service; 12 working weeks after 6 years of service; 16 working weeks after 8 years of service; 20 working weeks after 10 years of service.

Safety shoes: $190 per year or $570 over term of collective agreement.

Uniforms/clothing: Employees required to work in dangerous conditions will be supplied with required safety equipment and protective clothing. Seasonal issue clothing will be provided based on activities of work unit.

Custodian 1: $18.38 rising 1 step to $18.56

Driver/labourer/porter (arts)/vehicle-service helper 2: $23.27 rising 1 step to $23.50

Custodian 3/groundskeeper/porter (day/residence)/senior stores keeper/shipper/receiver: $23.62 rising 1 step to $23.86

Carpet installer/upholsterer/custodian 4/delivery/materials hander/material handler/shipper receiver/parking enforcement officer/stores keeper (chemistry): $24.40 rising 1 step to $24.64

Athletics facility operator/building mechanic 2/building mechanic 3/custodian 5/heavy equipment operator/machine operator grounds/nursery keeper and greenhouse/technician/sanitation equipment operator/senior stores keeper/truck mount operator: $25.92 rising 1 step to $26.18

Building mechanic 4 (predictive maintenance)/building mechanic 4 (preventative maintenance)/controls mechanic/gardener/painter/pest control operator/spray painter: $28.72 rising 1 step to $29.01

Fire prevention officer/locksmith: $29.63 rising 1 step to $29.93

Building mechanic 4 (indoor air quality specialist)/carpenter/controls technician 1/electrician/instrument mechanic/machinist millwright/plumber/steamfitter/refrigeration and air conditioning/mechanic/residence building SP/electrician/residence building SP/plumber/residence equipment mechanic/sheet metal worker/welder/steamfitter: $33.48 rising 1 step to $33.81

Editor’s notes: Unpaid parental leave: 61 weeks per pregnancy or placement to all regular full-time employees who have taken paid parental leave and 63 weeks for those who haven’t, beginning no later than 78 weeks after child comes into parental care. Available to both parents and, when added to paid parental leave period and used by both parents, enables up to 141 consecutive weeks of care for child. Educational assistance: University agrees to waive cost of tuition (excluding textbooks and laboratory fees) for regular full-time employees who wish to enroll in any course or program offered at university. Employee will be reimbursed for 100% of cost of tuition, maximum $800 in any 1 year, for taking off-campus courses. Athletic facilities: Employer will subsidize 25% of normal annual fee for use of university athletic facilities, for all regular full-time employees.
