Workers at Broadbent Institute in Toronto, Ottawa join UFCW

Think tank involved in policy analysis, advocacy: Union

Workers at the Broadbent Institute in Ottawa and Toronto joined United Food and Commercial Workers Canada (UFCW) Local 1006A after voting to join the union June 17.

The Broadbent Institute employees work in fundraising, communications, policy analysis and advocacy for one of Canada’s progressive think tank and training institute, said the union.

They joined the union to obtain strong representation on the job and the protection of a collective agreement. The workers were also attracted to the union because represents professional and office employees at other progressive organizations — including the federal New Democratic Party — according to UFCW.

“Workers at the Broadbent Institute play a vital role in promoting democracy, equality, and fairness in our society, and we are very proud to welcome them to the UFCW family,” said Wayne Hanley, president of UFCW Canada Local 1006A.
