Campaign was led by members: Union
Workers at the Courtyard by Marriott Hotel in Markham, Ont., voted yes on Feb. 16 to joining UFCW Canada, Local 1006A, said the union.
The members work in housekeeping, laundry, maintenance and in the hotel's onsite restaurant.
"Our newest members showed tremendous unity and strength in coming together to achieve this victory for their future," said Wayne Hanley, UFCW Canada Local 1006A president.
This was a worker-led campaign with workers seeking union representation due to treatment in the workplace, according to UFCW.
UFCW Canada Local 1006A represents workers at several hotels across Ontario, including many Marriott locations.
