Deal includes boosted pensions, extra paid time: IAM
Members of International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM), Local 1848 ratified a new collective agreement with HudBay Mining on Dec. 14.
The three-year agreement provides wage increases of 2.5 per cent in each year plus a one-time $1,000 signing bonus. The agreement also provides an increase of 1.2 per cent to pension contributions, said the union.
“We negotiated an additional $1 bridging increase to the pension contributions to help give members extra money until age 65,” said Tony Didoshak, IAM grand lodge representative.
Other agreement highlights include paid time for union business increased from two days a month to four, paid lunch increased from $10 to $15, paid rest time of eight hours between shifts and improved language for call in pay, according to IAM.
The 160 workers perform skilled trades at mining and smelting operations in Flin Flon and Snow Lake in Manitoba.
