B.C. replacing CareCards with new services card
The British Columbia government is replacing the CareCards residents use for health care services with a new BC Services Card over the next five years.
The new card will be more secure and better protect personal information because it includes a photo, an expiry date and uses anti-forgery features, the provincial health ministry said. The card can also be combined with a driver’s license.
Provincial residents will use the new card as an identification card, as well as a health card. In the future, the government says the card will be used to access other government services.
Over the next five years, provincial residents between the ages of 19 and 74 will be required to renew their enrolment in the province’s medical services plan in order to obtain a services card. Afterward, they will need to renew the card every five years.
