NAOSH Week puts the focus on workplace safety

Goal of week is to focus public on preventing injuries and illness

Across the country, organizations are observing North American Occupational Safety and Health week (NAOSH), which runs May 1 to May 7.

"NAOSH Week serves as a reminder that safety must be the most important focus for workers, employers and governments," said Don Morgan, Saskatchewan’s labour relations and workplace safety minister. "It is important that we all take the necessary steps to protect ourselves and others from hazards at work and at home."

NAOSH Week is led by the Canadian Society of Safety Engineering (CSSE) in partnership with the Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety (CCOHS), Human Resources and Skills Development Canada (HRSDC), and Threads of Life, in concert with the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) and partners in Mexico.

The goal of the week is to focus employees, employers, partners and the public on the importance of preventing injuries and illness in the workplace, at home and in the community, according to the safety week’s official website.

The week was first launched in 1997, marked by an agreement between Canada, the United States and Mexico..
