British Columbia

BCHRMA welcomes new president

Les Waldie, vice-president of human resources for Northern Health, was elected president of the British Columbia Human Resources Management Association (BCHRMA). The BCHRMA 2006-2007 board of directors are all returning members.

Alberta

New HRIA board members elected

The HRIA has announced the election of its board of directors for the 2006-2007 term. The new directors are: Allan McCalder, HR manager with Strathcona County; Myles Morris, a senior manager with the Workplace Innovation and Continuous Improvement branch of Alberta Human Resources and Employment; and Claudia Verburgh of Verburgh Consulting. David Knudson, an HR business partner with the City of Calgary, will be serving a second one-year term as president.

Manitoba

HRMAM annual awards

Eleven Manitoba companies were recognized with a Human Resources Management Association of Manitoba (HRMAM) leadership award for demonstrating excellence in HR programs and services. Click here to see a list of awards.

HRMAM in the people business

Prompted by a member survey held early in 2005, HRMAM has developed a branding strategy which includes a new website (www.hrmam.org), logo and branding statement: “The Business of People.”

Saskatchewan

New president and board members

The Saskatchewan Association of Human Resource Professionals (SAHRP) has a new president, Merrill Brinton. Brinton, who heads up the Saskatchewan HR practice of consulting firm Meyers Norris Penny, replaces Lynda Murray. The new board members are Pierre Cadrin, partner with Kinzel, Cadrin and Associates Consulting; Shelby Duckworth of AHz Learning Technologies; Shana Ring, supervisor of recruitment and organizational development at SaskPower; Charmaine Wintermute, consultant; and James McLean, HR consultant with Koenig & Associates HR.

Atlantic Canada

ACHRA awards

The fifth annual Atlantic Canada Human Resources Awards (ACHRA) were handed out in Saint John, N.B., in May. The awards recognized leadership and distinction in HR management. Awards went to: The City of Saint John (innovation in HR); Donald Rankin, Eastlink (excellence in HR); Gail Siepp, Irving Tissue (new HR leader award); and J.D. Irving Ltd. (strategic partnership award).
