Sick county workers in Arizona must stay home or risk firing

Employees can only return to work 24 hours after fever ends

Employees of Pima County in Arizona must stay home from work if they have flu symptoms or a fever of at least 38 degrees celsius, or risk being disciplined or fired.

Sick employees will only be allowed to return to work 24 hours after the fever ends.

The goal of the policy is to lessen the spread of swine or seasonal flu among the county's nearly 7,000 employees and those who visit government buildings.

Pima County is Arizona's second largest county with a population of one million and includes Tucson.

County supervisors unanimously approved the new policy, which states sick employees must notify their bosses of their illness and allows managers to send employees, who have flu symptoms, back home.

The policy will probably be lifted in the late spring.
