What are Canada’s ‘best jobs’ for 2024?

Indeed ranks jobs based on opportunity, salary and flexibility

What are Canada’s ‘best jobs’ for 2024?

Senior tax manager is ranked as the best available job in Canada for the coming year, according to an Indeed survey.

The ranking is based on factors that are most desired by job seekers, such as opportunity, salary and flexibility.

With 219 such senior tax manager positions available per one million open jobs, this represented a 105% leap from its position at the beginning of 2022, says Indeed and represents the single-highest open position available.

Flexibility high on list of desirable positions

The new report includes a number of reasons for the highest rankings: 10% of listings must include flexibility, in the form of including either hybrid or remote in its descriptions.

As well, growth in opportunities (meaning a higher percentage of available positions), and its overall share of total open jobs were also considered.

The numbers were compiled from Indeed’s internal information from 2020 to 2023.

The top job of tax manager paid an average of $139,063 per year, which is higher than the average Canadian median salary of $63,200, according to the report.

Average annual salaries for top jobs

The next highest rated positions and average annual salaries in the top 10 list include:

  • child protection practitioner: $77,034
  • governance manager: $97,469
  • senior electrical engineer: $110,000
  • associate dean: $114,281
  • structural engineer: $93,755
  • senior project coordinator: $81,224
  • project engineer: $91,153
  • librarian: $75,360
  • accounting supervisor: $79,594

The rankings show that management positions are popular, as senior tax manager, associate dean and governance manager all featured prominently in the top 10.

But while the overall number of top jobs are down from a 2022 peak, they are more stable today due to higher pay, more flexibility, according to Indeed.

Notably, there are fewer tech positions on this year’s list, due to the plethora of layoffs from 2023, but engineering-type jobs remain popular, says Indeed.
