Electricians with Division 26 Fort McMurray, Alta. ratified their first collective agreement in a unanimous vote on Oct. 25.

The employees are represented by Construction Workers Union, CLAC Local 63, which was certified to represent them by the Alberta Labour Relations Board on Sept. 23, says the union.

The 32-month contract includes competitive wage rates and industry standard premiums with other contractors in the region. Employees will also receive a total of eight per cent employer contributions to the pension plan and group RSP. In addition, they now have a benefits plan that is paid by the employer, says CLAC.

“The negotiation process went smoothly,” says Izzy Huygen, CLAC representative. “A number of employees were new to CLAC and some had worked previously with other CLAC-signatory contractors and knew that we could secure them the gains that they were looking for with their employer.”
