Ford plant protection officers in Windsor and Oakville, both in Ontario, ratified a new deal on Oct. 31, by 75 and 82 per cent respectively.

The new contract follows the pattern established with Ford last year during negotiations with the Detroit Three, and includes two wage increases of two per cent over four-years. It also includes stronger local language and provisions around uniforms and the creation of full-time jobs, said Unifor.

In Windsor, this translates to seven full-time jobs and five in Oakville, wherein several of the current supplemental workers will be offered full-time, permanent positions.  Workers who are promoted to full-time will see a $7 an hour wage increase, according to the union.

“The union made significant gains in this round of negotiations. We had one particular member who has been a supplemental worker for 18 years and now will have a full-time job,” said Jodi Nesbitt, Local 240 president, representing 20 workers in Windsor.
