Health-care workers at VOI in Manitoba sign new agreement

United Food and Commercial Workers union (UFCW) Canada, Local 832 health-care members working at Visions of Independence (VOI) in Winnipeg and Portage la Prairie, Man., secured a new collective agreement on Nov. 19 that brings improvements to contract language.

Visions of Independence provides residential services and community support for people living with disabilities. Its goal is to provide individuals with intellectual disabilities with the encouragement and support that they need to enhance their independence. UFCW 832 members coordinate the day programs and group home programs provided by VOI, assisting supported individuals with everyday living needs.

Some of the gains in the new contract include a new top of scale and over-scale premium, a new key direct support professional (KDSP) specialty premium of two per cent and new seniority premiums of one per cent for five years of service and two per cent  for 10 years of service.

UFCW Canada Local 832 is Manitoba’s largest private sector union, representing more than 18,000 members in a wide variety of industries, including the retail food, health care, food processing, security, industrial, textile and transportations sectors.
