K-Bro Linen Systems workers in Toronto locked out

Truck drivers deliver linen, laundry to hospitals

K-Bro Linen Systems workers, represented by Teamsters Local 847, have been locked out, said the union.

The 14 truck drivers, who deliver laundry and linen to many Toronto hospitals, could lose their jobs to non-union companies because the employer wants to add an outsourcing clause to the collective agreement, allowing them to ultimately eliminate every union job at their Toronto facility, according to the union.

“We think K-BRO wants to get rid of union jobs and that just infuriates our members,” said Fernanda Santos, president of Teamsters Local 847.

In a letter to workers, K-BRO management said that unless their demands are met, workers would be locked out as of 12:01 a.m. on Jan. 31, said the union.

The collective agreement at K-BRO expired on Dec. 31, 2016.
