New contract signed at Iafrate Machine Works in Thorold Ont.

Comes after three-day employer lockout: Unifor

Workers at Iafrate Machine Works in Thorold Ont., — represented by Unifor, Local 199 — ratified a new three-year collective agreement on Jan. 24.

The 47 workers voted to approve the new contract after rejecting a previous offer. Employees refused the employer's initial wage proposals and resisted Iafrate’s attempted attack to claw back on health and dental benefits said the union.

After the contract was rejected by the union, the company locked out the workers for three days. The union reached a new deal achieving a two per cent wage increase across the board in all classifications in each year of the contract. Another gain was additional tier of vacation entitlement to recognize long-service employees, according to Unifor.
