Public health nurses working for the Regional Municipality of York in Ontario reached a tentative two-year deal on Feb. 2, according to Vicki McKenna, Ontario Nurses' Association (ONA) president.

"We are very pleased that our public health nurses will be able to continue working to keep their community healthy and safe," said McKenna. "ONA members will vote on the deal this evening and ONA is recommending ratification. The employer will hold its ratification vote on Feb. 15."

This was a difficult round of negotiations, said McKenna, and about 250 public health nurses remained optimistic that a negotiated contract could be reached.
