University of Manitoba warns students there could be exam delays due to strike

Some classes, labs, tutorials are ongoing

WINNIPEG (CP) — The University of Manitoba is warning students that dates might be adjusted for exams and the fall and winter term as the school continues into the second week of its labour negotiations with the university's Faculty Association.

Numerous classes have been cancelled because of the strike, impacting around 29,000 students.

The university said changes are expected to be made to the exam period dates, when the fall term will end, when the winter term will start and the voluntary withdrawal date for students.

Vice-Provost Susan Gottheil said on the school's website that the longer the strike continues, the greater the impact on the academic year.

The university remains open, and the school said students are responsible for classes that are continuing and for any ongoing labs, tutorials and assignments.

The faculty association — which represents around 1,200 professors, instructors and librarians — walked off the job Nov. 1 after contract negotiations broke down.
