Benefits fully paid by employer, retirement package added in new deal: CLAC
Employees of MMR Industrial Constructors voted unanimously in favour of ratifying their first collective agreement on Nov. 11 providing them with wage, benefits and retirement savings improvements.
The employees are represented by Construction Workers Union, CLAC Local 63. The local was certified by the Alberta Labour Relations Board in October to represent the 30 electricians employed by the company, says the union.
“Our new members made some substantial gains with their first contract,” says Izzy Huygen, CLAC representative. “A number of them have worked with CLAC contractors before and enjoyed our collaborative approach of working together to help them and their company succeed.”
The new 30-month contract provides employees with increases to wages, vacation and statutory holiday pay. It also includes a retirement savings package with eight per cent employer contributions and a benefits package fully paid by the employer, says CLAC.
MMR Industrial Constructors is a Calgary-based company currently performing industrial electrical work in the Fort McMurray region.
