Workers at Krown Produce in Winnipeg agree to new contract

$350 signing bonus, doubled sick days, boot-allowance increase part of deal: UFCW

United Food and Commercial Workers Canada (UFCW), Local 832 members working at Krown Produce in Winnipeg unanimously voted in favour of a new four-year collective agreement Oct. 24.

At the date of signing, each member received a $350 signing bonus as well as a two per cent increase to their wages. Additional two per cent increases on members' wages are scheduled in each of the following three years of the new deal, said the union.

The union bargaining committee was also successful in doubling the amount of paid sick days to 32 hours, up from 16 hours. The new contract also features increases to the boot allowance for members working in shipping and receiving, according to UFCW.

Krown Produce provides fresh produce to retail and wholesale distributors in Western Canada.

UFCW Canada Local 832 is Manitoba's largest union, representing more than 18,000 workers in a variety of industries including retail food, health care, food processing, security, industrial, textile and transportation.
