Workers at Symphony Living in Ontario ratify contract

Employer will pay more into pension plan: Union

The latest collective agreement was ratified July 6, 2017 by International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) Local Lodge 1295 workers employed a Symphony Living Retirement Home in Clarington, Ont.

The multi-year agreement provides wage increases of 10 per cent over the life of the contract.

Other agreement highlights include:

  • Increase in employer contributions to the IAM pension plan in the last year of the agreement.
  • Increase life insurance coverage.
  • Improved language on overtime selection.
  • Improved language on shift vacancy selection.

The 45 members consist of registered practical nurses, personal support workers, housekeeping staff, and cooks. IAM represents health care workers in retirement homes in Orleans, North Bay, Stratford, Clarington and Toronto, all in Ontario.
