What are Canada’s most in-demand positions?

Does HR make it onto Randstad’s list of the top 15 jobs?

What are Canada’s most in-demand positions?

The most popular job in Canada often doesn’t get a lot of credit but is nonetheless a crucial part of many organizations.

Administrative assistant has been identified as the most in-demand job of 2024, according to Randstad Canada, who released its list of the 15 most popular jobs in Canada for 2024.

The average salary for the job was between $37,000 and $99,000, says Randstad.

Demand is also growing for occupations in manual industries, such as electricians and welders, says Brent Dul, executive vice-president at Randstad Canada.

“The same applies to professions that specialize in customer service or customer experience. We know that workers in 2024 are increasingly looking for flexibility, and positions requiring face-to-face presence can pose challenges in this respect.

“Employers looking to fill these positions must be creative to attract job seekers.”

The recruiting company took a look at its own internal data to come up with the ranking, says Dul. “Through a meticulous analysis of a plurality of industries as well as our customers’ job vacancies, we can highlight the most in-demand professions.”

Coming in at number two was sales associate, which averaged between $46,000 and $84,000 in salary. Planners were listed as number three on the Randstad list, with the same average salary.

AI and HR are about to become much more integrated, says a Canadian university professor.

HR business partner among most in-demand jobs

HR business partner slid into the fourth spot on the list, with an average wage range of between $75,000 and $156,000.

Rounding out the top 15 were:

  • Logistics coordinator (between $62,000 and $122,000)
  • Customer-service consultant (between $43,000 and $74,000)
  • Marketing manager (between $62,000 and $122,000)
  • Mechanical engineer (between $66,000 and $131,000)
  • Finance analyst (between $62,000 and $142,000)
  • Pharmaceutical assistant (between $40,000 and $60,000)
  • Accounting technician (between $39,000 and $114,000)
  • Software developer (between $68,000 and $137,000)
  • Electrician (between $55,000 and $77,000)
  • Development and operations process engineer (DevOps) (between $66,000 and $131,000)
  • Welder (between $40,000 and $74,000)

This news is positive for job seekers without a university diploma, says Dul.

“Today’s market offers an impressive diversity of interesting opportunities, among which any job seeker can find something they like. It’s a good time to reflect on your aspirations and look for a role that matches your career goals, no matter how many diplomas you have. It’s shaping up to be a very positive year for job seekers.”
