Ottawa, Vancouver, Calgary and Toronto are among the cities with the best work-life balance for 2021, according to a global ranking by Kisi, an internet of things company.
The survey was based on factors related to work intensity (such as remote jobs, overworked population and minimum vacations offered), society and institutions (such as COVID support, healthcare and access to mental healthcare), and city livability (such as affordability, happiness, culture and leisure, and city safety).
“This study is not designed to be a city livability index, nor is it intended to highlight the best cities to work in; instead, it is an indicator of a city's ability to provide a healthy work-life balance for its residents, while providing opportunities to relieve work-related stress during and outside times of crisis,” says the company.
Canada climbed to the second spot in the “2020 Best Countries Report” after placing third the previous year, according to a separate report.
Rankings
Helsinki took the top spot, just like it did in 2019, with a total score of 100, while Oslo improved to second from third in 2019, scoring 98.6 this year. Zurich (91.5), Stockholm (91.4) and Copenhagen (90.4) took the next three spots, respectively.
Ottawa placed sixth, improving from 11th in 2019, with a score of 89.1. Munich followed, dropping from second in the previous survey, with a score of 89.1, and Vancouver took the eighth spot, from 10th in 2019, with a score of 87.8.
Amsterdam (87.6) and Sydney (86.8) took the ninth and 10th spots, respectively. Calgary placed 13th with a score of 85.2 and Toronto came in at 14th with 84.9.
