SiriusXM, Book Depot and Wellington-Altus are among the 2021 Best Managed Companies, according to Deloitte & Touche.

The competition ranks Canadian-owned and -managed companies with revenues over $25 million that demonstrate leadership in the areas of strategy, capabilities and innovation, culture and commitment, and financials to achieve sustainable growth. Also, the winners have re-applied and successfully retained their Best Managed designation for two additional years, subject to an annual operational and financial review.

"In what may be the most challenging year for Canadian businesses since the program's inception, the 2021 Best Managed winners are a shining example of the importance of leadership, innovation, and resilience in the face of uncertainty," says Kari Lockhart, national co-leader of the Canada's Best Managed Companies program and partner at Deloitte Private. "These companies should not only be extremely proud of this designation, but for their organizational grit, continued adaptability, and unwavering commitment to their people during a year when it was needed most."

Winning companies

SiriusXM Canada has qualified for the list for the 12th year. The company recognized its employees who helped push the company forward through the pandemic.

"Although the past year has been unlike any other, we are proud of our dedicated and talented team that continues to innovate and lead this organization into the future," says Mark Redmond, president and CEO, SiriusXM Canada.

Book Depot claims its people are driven to provide a consistently exceptional customer experience and the company’s entrepreneurial culture has been key to its success as it embraces technology to innovate and achieve operating excellence.

"We are honored to receive the prestigious Canada's Best Managed Companies award during a year that is truly unlike any other. We are proud to join a select group of Canadian companies who have inspired us with their leadership in areas of innovation, strategy, and culture," says Wilf Wikkerink, CEO of Book Depot.

Wellington-Altus Private Wealth credits the recognition to its early investment in technology, intentionally selective recruitment strategy, focus on innovation, and equity ownership model.

"By embracing our entrepreneurial spirit and independence, we've created a secret sauce that resonates with, and attracts the best of the best. We're thrilled to have our strategic efforts recognized by a distinguished program like Canada's Best Managed Companies,” says Charlie Spiring, Wellington-Altus co-founder and chairman.
